31/10/07 - Government signs sand shipping contract with Moroccan company PDF Print E-mail

The Ministry of the Economy, Growth and Competitiveness is expected to sign a contract today with a Moroccan company to supply 30 metric tons of sand to construction companies on the island of Sal and in the city of Praia.

The purchase of the sand from the Moroccan company is being seen, according to a source at the Ministry of the Economy, as a provisional solution aimed at minimizing the problems currently faced by the construction sector in Cape Verde, particularly on the island of Sal. The sand is used in the manufacture of cement.

The next step, according to A Semana Online’s source, is to encourage the private sector to become involved in resolving the problem of the lack of sand on the Cape Verdean market.
