The island of Boa Vista will begin a new era today with the official opening of its international airport, an infrastructure considered of strategic importance to the island’s future. Boa Vista has been receiving a flood of people over the past several days in anticipation of the big event. Scheduled for 11:30 am today, the grand opening of Boa Vista International Airport is seen, in general, as a new page in the life of the island. The event will be presided over by Prime Minister José Maria Neves, who arrived on the island on Monday accompanied by several government ministers. A TACV Cabo Verde Airlines aircraft will depart from Praia for Boa Vista to begin the ceremony marking the official opening of the new airport, which has a 2,100-meter runway and the capacity to park two Boeing 737 or 757 (or two Airbus A321) aircrafts and one ATR 42. The passenger terminal has the capacity to process 250 travelers per hour. Airport and Air Security company ASA administrative council president Mário Paixão is, as is to be expected, satisfied not only with the construction of the new airport, but also with the dynamism demonstrated by the aviation sector at the moment - TACV is currently in the midst of a flight route expansion program, with new flights to England, Poland, Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone, among other destinations.
