The Minister of the Economy, Growth and Competitiveness, José Brito, will travel tomorrow to Angola, where he will participate in an international meeting alongside various colleagues. Brito will take advantage of his stay in Angola to hold a series of meetings, particularly with the country’s Minister of Petroleum, who is responsible for Angolan fuel company Sonangol, one of the stockholders in Cape Verdean fuel company Enacol. The Cape Verdean government has already begun an offensive with Portugal’s Galp and Angola’s Sonangol to reduce the antagonism opposing Enacol’s two largest shareholders, and thus help put an end to the institutional crisis Enacol is currently going through. It is hoped that the results of this attempted rapprochement will be seen in Enacol’s next general assembly, scheduled for February 15 in Mindelo, where the company is headquartered. The main items on the meeting’s agenda are the election of a new administrative council and the approval of this year’s management tools. Today, January 31, Finance Minister Cristina Duarte is expected to hold meetings with high-level officials at Galp in Portuguese capital Lisbon. In this case as well, the main item on the agenda will be Enacol. With almost identical shares in Enacol, Galp and Sonangol are each trying to establish internal alliances with smaller shareholders in order to win control of the Cape Verdean fuel company, whose capital is distributed as such: Galp and Petrogal (Portugal) - 37.5%; Sonangol (Angola’s state petroleum company) - 36.7%; Caixa Banco Investimentos (Portugal) - 6.2%; small shareholders - 17.5%; State of Cape Verde - 2.1% (golden share).
