Cape Verde airline TACVFollowing on the heels of the aircraft christened Jorge Barbosa, which has been carrying out domestic flights since May of this year, TACV Cabo Verde Airlines this week received its second recently-purchased ATR 72-500. The aircraft, one of a lot of three the company acquired to reinforce its domestic and regional fleet, carried out its first commercial flight on Wednesday, July 18, to Senegalese capital Dakar.

The aircraft, which has been given the name Baltasar Lopes in homage of the prominent 20th century Cape Verdean literary figure, will be baptized in an official ceremony in early October, by which time TACV expects to have its third new ATR flying.

The new 68-seat ATR 72-500 was purchased directly from the ATR factory in Toulouse, France.

According to a press release from the airline, “the arrival of this latest aircraft will allow TACV to significantly increase its capacity in terms of supply on domestic and regional routes, in addition to providing passengers with a greater level of comfort during their travels.”

The three ATRs are intended to help respond to the growing demand for flights on the São Vicente, Sal and Praia lines.
