The government of Cape Verde plans to set up three wind farms on the islands of Santiago, Sao Vicente and Sal with joint production of 20 megawatts, the director general for Energy said in Sal Tuesday.Abraćo Lopes said that the countrys wind power potential was large and added that with the development of the sector the government hopes to reduce its external dependence on oil products for power production. Lopes noted that the project was in its final phase of analysis and it was due to be applied in 2008. According to Lopes, the conclusion of the project will have repercussions on reducing the energy bill in terms of fuel imports, as well as improving environmental impact.
