29/10/07 - Prime Minister meets with Boa Vista residents PDF Print E-mail

Prime Minister José Maria Neves will meet Tuesday morning with prominent personalities on the island of Boa Vista in a public session scheduled to take place at the Sal Rei Youth Center. Tourist company owners, entrepreneurs and representatives from various businesses and decentralized state services are expected to ask questions and solicit clarifications from the head of the government regarding the island’s socio-economic development.

The meeting is a part of the decentralized Council of Ministers session, which will take place today and tomorrow on the island. José Maria Neves is also on Boa Vista to take part in the grand opening of the new Boa Vista International Airport, scheduled for Wednesday, October 31.

In tomorrow’s meeting, the Prime Minister is expected to discuss a number of the tourism-sector projects currently under way and in planning for the island. Other issues expected to be touched upon include the environment, electricity and water, health, socio-economic development, and actions carried out by both central and local authorities in the social realm, particularly with regards to the spread of shantytowns on the island.

Boa Vista, which is expected to become Cape Verde’s most tourism-centered island in the near future, currently has no hospital, making do with one health delegation in the town of Sal Rei. The island’s new health center, which was supposed to have opened some time ago, is still under construction.
