Central bank governors from West Africa and Europe debate financial system in Cape Verde.

Yves Mersch, the governor of Luxembourg’s central bank, will discuss the development o the financial system in the light of Luxembourg’s experience, while Victor Constâncio, the governor of Portugal’s central bank, will speak on opportunities and challenges for the development of the financial system in a small and open economy. The governor of the Central Bank of the West African States, Damo Baro, will discuss the development of the financial market in the West African sub-region,

Cape Verdean President Pedro Pires will preside over the opening session of the conference, while Finance Minister Cristina Duarte will close the event.

The meeting, which is being organized by the Bank of Cape Verde and is aimed at marking the 32nd anniversary of the institution’s creation, comes following the implementation of an action plan for the development of the Cape Verdean financial system.

The Bank of Cape Verde hopes that the event will promote reflection on the theme and provide ideas for the reinforcement of the plan, as well as raise the awareness of business leaders and officials from pertinent public institutions regarding the issue of the development of the financial system.
