Minister of the Economy, Growth and Competitiveness José Brito will preside today over the opening of the first meeting of the National Tourism Council, to be held at the Foya Branca Hotel conference room on the island of São Vicente. The National Tourism Council will use the meeting to approve its internal regiments and define its mode of operations as the government’s consulting body for the tourism sector. The meeting will also serve as an opportunity for the Minister of the Economy to describe the state of implementation of the government’s policies for the tourism sector and for the Council to provide an initial evaluation of these policies. Participants will also learn about the progress being made on the elaboration of Cape Verde’s Integrated Tourism Plan. The scheduling of the National Tourism Council meeting, according to the Ministry of the Economy’s media aide, is a result of the government’s desire to see the participation of all of its partners in the formulation and evaluation of policies for a sector that is one of the main motors of economic growth in Cape Verde. The National Tourism Council is the Ministry of the Economy, Growth and Competitiveness’s consulting body for the tourism sector, and is made up of representatives from both public and private institutions. Its role is to ensure the participation of these representatives in the conception, accompaniment and evaluation of policies, promote studies and produce reports on the Ministry’s policies and detailed development plans for tourist zones, an define tourist promotion strategies, among other attributes.
