The certification process for Boa Vista International Airport will take place between October 9 and 13, according to an announcement made by Airport and Air Security company ASA. If the process goes as planned, the airport will begin operating by the end of the month of October. “Perspectives are positive and the institutions involved in the process are determined to work towards opening Boa Vista airport for international traffic by the end of this October,” reads a press release from ASA. The certification tests will include operations with a Boeing 757, as well as emergency drills. Following the certification tests, a final report will be elaborated by the Civil Aviation Agency with the results of the inspections carried out to determine the airport’s operational readiness. The adequateness of the airport’s infrastructures, norms and procedures to the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization and Cape Verdean regulations in the realm of airport certification will also be included in the document. The opening of Boa Vista International Airport has been long awaited by the island’s residents and business owners, who have complained over the past several months of the enormous losses they claim to have incurred as a result of the lack of tourists.
