Created last May following a meeting with Cape Verde’s bilateral and multilateral partners with the objective of advising the government, Cape Verde’s Transition Support Group, which will meet tomorrow, has concluded the elaboration of a document in which Cape Verde’s Graduation Strategy is defined. The strategy will be reviewed next year by the United Nations system. The document, according to a diplomatic source, points to the need to increase the level of aid or, at the very least, to maintain current levels, as well as the need for the adoption on the part of Cape Verde’s donors of more malleable financing mechanisms during the ten-year transition period, which will begin in January 2008. Only with this type of measure, according to the source, will Cape Verde be able to assure the sustainable continuity of its development process without major upsets.
