26/02/08 - Italian newspaper “concerned” about massification of tourism on Boa Vista PDF Print E-mail

The Italian newspaper Il Giornalli, based in Milan, dedicated an entire page to the island of Boa Vista in a recent edition. The article discusses the potentials, projects and problems currently seen on the island.

The report portrays the beautiful beaches, hospitality and people of Boa Vista, as well as the uniquess of its landscapes. In addition, the projects currently under way or in planning are highlighted in the framework of the search for sustainable tourism on the island.

Il Giornalli calls attention, however, to the problem of the widespread construction currently seen on the island, saying that “10 years from now, Boa Vista will be a place like so many others spread throughout the world,” considering that “the relationship between tourism and the environment is not being taken into proper account.”

According to the article, penned by Giordano Bruno, concrete is taking over the island. And “this Boa Vista untouched by man will, in very few years, lose the magic that characterizes it. In the future, it will be a Boa Vista of mass tourism with gigantic hotels.”
