ImageThe International Airport of Boa Vista, which represented an investment of 21 million euros, is expected to be in operation soon, the chairman of Cape Verde’s Airport and Air Safety (ASA) company said Wednesday.

The airport, which was built in 24 months using a loan from Portuguese bank Espírito Santo, has a runway that is 2,100 meters long and 45 meters wide.

Portuguese construction company Moniz de Maia e Empreiteiros (MSF) built the airport, and the master plan was drawn up by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The executive project was the responsibility of Spanish company INECO, which specializes in airport projects.

Mário Paixão, chairman of ASA, said that by August 27 the assembly of the Automatic Meteorology Station would be completed, and then the airport’s certification process could begin.

Paixão said that the airport’s equipment had already been installed and staff trained, and that in September a further three fire vehicles would be delivered to the airport.

He also said that the certification of the airport’s vsiual landing system had also been carried out as had the procedures for approach and landing of aircraft by specialized bodies.
