20/04/07 - Cape Verde hosts 4th meeting of Chinese and Portuguese-speaking businesspeople in 2008 |
The 4th edition of the meeting of businesspeople from China and from the Community of Portuguese-speaking countries (CPLP), a forum launched by Beijing in 2003, will be held in cape Verde at the end of the first half of 2008, officials said. A source from the event’s organizers told Portuguese news agency Lusa that the meeting would take place in “May or June” of next year in the capital of Praia or on Sal Island.
The event is expected to last for “more days” (the Maputo meeting lasted two days) to meet the demands of businesspeople, who have been frustrated about the lack of time available to make contacts and do deals.
Over 500 businesspeople from China and CPLP member-countries met Thursday in Maputo, Mozambique at the third meeting, which was the first event of its kind held in Mozambique.
The event was opened by Mozambique's prime minister, Luísa Diogo, for whom this type of meeting should be more practical.
As well as businesspeople, the meeting will also brought together representatives of agencies for promoting trade and investment, chambers of commerce and business associations from China and the CPLP.
Zhang Wei, the vice-president of the Chinese Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), told those present that Beijing wished to raise economic relations between participating countries to “a new level.”
Zhang said that some areas in which cooperation could be increased were, construction of ports, airports, roads, "buildings and housing," agriculture, tourism, and training in high technology.
