19/10/06 - Sal hosts international tourism event PDF Print E-mail
ImageMorocco, Senegal, Ireland, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Brazil will be represented at the International Tourism Encounter beginning Thursday on the island of Sal. The event, according to one of the organizers, Linda Pereira of CPL Events, will serve to exchange experiences among tourist agents, some of whom have already invested in Cape Verde.

This is the second event of its kind to be held in Cape Verde - the first took place last year on the island of São Vicente - and will serve as an opportunity to consolidate the archipelago’s place on international tourism routes. According to Linda Pereira, Cape Verde, due to its location between Europe and Africa, “has the right conditions for the development of a very positive brand of tourism, both for those with money and who are looking for a ‘dream society,’ as well as for northern European tourists looking for a getaway or for an investment in a second home.”

But for this potential to be met, according to declarations Pereira made to A Semana Online, the archipelago must “invest in training and, preferentially, open its own university, investing, for example, in tourism majors.” For Pereira, this is one way for the tourism sector to have an “impact in the country’s economy.”
