ImageCape Verde’s economy is expected to grow by 7 percent this year, according to a mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which said in Praia Friday that the Cape Verde economy "remains solid." The IMF mission, headed by Maitland Macfarlain, ended a two-week visit to Cape Verde in which it contacted several sectors of the state, companies and the Parliament, as part of an evaluation for the Policy Support Instrument (PSI).

This is the second review of the PSI, an instrument that was approved by the IMF in July 2006 for the supervision and evaluation of the sustainability of the Cape Verde economy based on macroeconomic stability, growth and reduction of poverty.

According to the IMF mission, the Cape Verdean economy was solid in 2006, with growth of around 6.5 percent and a rate of inflation of around 5.4 percent.

For 2007 the IMF forecasts growth of 7 percent, with inflation of 1 percent.
