Cape Verdean survey and polling company Afrosondagem has been chosen by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa to carry out a study on good governance in Cape Verde. The study will kick off with a presentation in Praia on February 22 aimed at preparing the public for the survey.
Cape Verde is now one of the countries included in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa’s study on good governance, which began last year in 27 countries and has now been extended to 39. According to sociologist José Semedo, the general director of Afrosondagem, which represents Afrobarometer in Cape Verde, the study commissioned by the United Nations encompasses areas such as political representation, institutional effectiveness and economic management. The study will be accompanied by a committee made up of representatives from the academic world, the governmental area and society at large. Among those chosen to sit on the committee are sociologist Cláudio Furtado and Manuel Faustino, president of the Zá Moniz Association for Solidarity and Development. The study on good governance, which the United Nations defines as “an essential element for sustainable development,” will be carried out using questionnaires given to the population at large and interviews with personalities from the academic milieu, public administration, the private sector and civil society.
