ImageThe volume of business carried out between the Spanish autonomous region of the Canary Islands and Cape Verde increased 25% in 2006, making last year the best in the history of commercial relations between the two archipelagoes.

In 2006, exports from the Canary Islands to Cape Verde surpassed 1 billion escudos, thanks to a 25% increase in business volume.

According to a study sponsored by the local regional government, the Canary Islands constitute the region of Spain that exports the most to Cape Verde - some 27% of all Spanish exports to the country.

In the other direction, the Canary Islands represent the final destination of only 2% of all Cape Verdean exports to Spain. The main product Cape Verde exports to the Canary Islands is fish.

Currently, more than 40 companies headquartered in the Canary Islands operate in the Cape Verdean market.
