18/08/08 - Consumer Price Index up 1.4% between June and July

The Consumer Price Index rose 1.4% between June and July of this year. According to data from the National Statistics Institute, the average variation over the past twelve months stood at 5.9%, a 0.3 percentage point rise in relation to June.  Clothing and footwear (15.7%), food products and non-alcoholic beverages, transportation and housing rent, homes, electricity, gas and other fuels were the areas that most contributed to the increase in the inflation rate.

On a regional level, the most significant price hikes between June and July took place on the island of Santiago (1.6%), followed by São Vicente (1.4%).
