The United Nations (UN) has announced that Cape Verde’s economic triumphs have resulted in the west African archipelago being lifted out of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) list.
While the UN cautiously noted that this should not be a sign that all of the region’s problems had ceased, the graduation from the LDC list is a further development in the eyes of overseas property investors as the news poses well for financial matters. Anwarul Chowdhury, the high representative for the LDCs, landlocked developing countries and small island developing states, told a conference that Cape Verde had "won the battle but not the war", reports www.scoop.nz.org. Only through continuing its efforts would Cape Verde maintain its current successes in health, nutrition, education and literacy; and economic vulnerability. Mr Chowdhury concluded by praising the people of Cape Verde and its government for its actions so far, as well as credited the UN system and the international donor and development community for their roles in assisting the country.
