Prime Minister José Maria Neves will meet tomorrow, October 16, with representatives of the owners of the lands expropriated for the construction of Boa Vista International Airport. The compensation payment process will be discussed during the meeting.

According to a press release, the meeting was requested by the Boa Vista sector of the governing PAICV party and by the owners of the lands expropriated by the State of Cape Verde for the construction of the Boa Vista International Airport and the Chaves Integrated Tourist Development Zone.

The commission slated to meet with the Prime Minister is made up of João Pereira Silva, Luís Spencer, Cacilda Mosso, Simão Gomes and Maria Andrade, who will represent the landowners.

The group intends to discuss its “willingness to collaborate toward the creation of an atmosphere of peace and cooperation so that Boa Vista can develop in a harmonious fashion,” as well as the “compensation payment process, the previously established accords and the delays that have occurred.” The group has also expressed the landowners’ “willingness not to jeopardize the country, the island, the tourist and real-estate business owners or the workers at the enterprises that have already been concluded or that are under construction.”

The promoters of the initiative, according to the communiqué, affirm that “despite their willingness to collaborate towards the promotion of an atmosphere of peace and unity on Boa Vista, particularly during the celebrations surrounding the opening of the International Airport in Rabil, the landowners will not abdicate the use of all legal, legitimate and admissible means to defend their right to be compensated in a timely manner, in accordance with the law.”
