ImageCape Verde’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Victor Borges, will speak at 3:00 pm on September 26 to the United Nations General Assembly. According to a diplomatic source, the issue of Cape Verde’s graduation from the group of Least Developed Countries to that of Developing Countries is one of the issues Borges is expected to discuss.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, who has been in the United States since Tuesday, spoke yesterday at the International Dialogue on Migrations and Development, which took place Wednesday and Thursday at UN headquarters. Borges discussed the phenomenon of illegal migration from West Africa, which has particularly affected Spain’s Canary Islands.

The Cape Verdean chancellor, according to A Semana Online’s source, will participate, alongside the United Nations General Assembly, in a meeting of the contact group for Guinea Bissau made up of various Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and European Union countries. Borges is expected to request greater financial commitment on the part of the international community to help the troubled West African country reform its Armed Forces and Public Administration.
