The president of Cape Verde was invited by the ADB to give a speech at the ministerial round table on "Africa and Asia: Partners in Development,” where he is expected to present his country’s good development indicators, despite the adversities and limited resources of the archipelago.

Pires will give a speech to an audience of Finance ministers from member-countries of the ADB and by high level authorities of international financial bodies, presenting Cape Verde as a “success case.”

Last March, a mission from the ADB visited Cape Verde with the aim of drawing up a report on the bank’s activities in the country, which will be presented at the Annual Meeting in Shanghai to show the impact of its operations on poverty in the country.

In the 43-year history of the bank, this is the first time its 53 African members and 24 non-African members have met in Asia and the second time they have gathered outside of Africa.

The ADB finances development projects in Africa including sanitation and fighting disease, as well as building highways.

Headquartered in Abidjan, in the Ivory Coast, the ADB, of which Portugal has been a member since 1982, has 77 member countries, with China entering the group in 1985.
