The certification process for the new Praia International Airport has been completed. Cape Verde’s Civil Aviation Agency issued a provisory certification for the airport yesterday, September 13, and approved the plan for the transition from Francisco Mendes Airport, which currently serves Praia.

According to a press release from the Civil Aviation Agency, the certification is complete “according to the domestic regulatory requisites approved in observance of the technical and practical norms recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization for the construction and operation of international airports.”

As a result of this, reads the release, the Civil Aviation Agency issued a provisory operational certificate for the airport in the terms and conditions established in the Airport Operational Manual, and approved the plan for the transition from the Francisco Mendes Airport to the new Praia Airport.”

TACV Cabo Verde Airlines and Airport and Air Security company ASA are expected by tomorrow to establish the date the airport will begin commercial flight operations.
