The Bank of Cape Verde is promoting the 11th Association of Lusophone Insurance Supervisors conference today and tomorrow in Praia. The Association of Lusophone Insurance Supervisors (known by the Portuguese acronym ASEL) is an initiative of the governments of the countries that share Portuguese as an official language, and the members of which are the institutions that supervise insurance in Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Macau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor. With the participation of almost all members (only East Timor will not be attending) and of a representative of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), the event, which is taking place in Praia’s PraiaMar Hotel, is divided into two parts: a conference, open to the public, for the presentation and discussion of themes of interest to this area of activity, and a General Assembly, limited to ASEL members, for the discussion of issues related to insurance activities in the member countries. The ASEL is headquartered at the Portuguese Insurance Institute in Portuguese capital Lisbon and aims, among other objectives, to “foster the exchange of information and experience among its members and with similar organizations and support the development of insurance market regulation and supervision methods and the improvement of this market’s effectiveness, with an eye to protecting the interests of insurance companies and other insurance beneficiaries,” explains a press release from the Bank of Cape Verde
