ImageThe Águas de Cabo Verde factory located in Trindade on Santiago Island, began operating Monday initially producing cola soft drinks and later orange and lemon juices, the company said Tuesday.  The factory, which represents an investment of around US$4.7 million, also plans to produce flavored waters.  The concentrates used in producing the soft drinks are supplied b y German company Döhler.  The Arab Bank for Economic Development of Africa (BADEA) providing financing of US$1.75 million to build the factory, which is expected to have a bottling capacity of 36,000 liters per day.

The loan, which will not begin to be repaid for seven years, has a 28 year maturity.

The factory’s production line is entirely automated, which will make it possible to improve the quality of the products and increase production capacity.

The factory is in line with the Food Hygiene and Safety standards required by the European Union (EU).

The factory’s owners have said they plan to supply the domestic market as well as to export its products to foreign markets, such as Guinea Bissau.
