The public-private partnership between the cape Verdean state, power company Electra and Britain’s InfraCo for construction of wind farms was approved by the country’s president, news agency Inforpress reported.
The partnership plans to develop, finance, build, own and operate wind farms in Praia, Mindelo, Sal and Boa Vista and the contract was signed in August 2007.
The Cape Verdean authorities plan to make use of renewable energy to reduce the cost of power production and minimize the detrimental effects on the environment.
In total, the four wind farms will produce between 22.5 and 25 megawatts of power, increasing the percentage of wind power produced in the country from 3 percent to 18 percent of the total.
