10/10/07 - New central post office opens in Mindelo

The island of São Vicente has a new central post office. The new building will be open for business on Friday, October 12, as a part of the commemorations marking World Postal Day, which took place yesterday, October 9. A series of postage stamps marking the centennial of the birth of the leaders of the Claridade literary movement was also unveiled for the occasion.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new central post office in the city of Mindelo yesterday was presided over by the Minister of Infrastructures, Transportation and the Sea, Manuel Inocêncio Sousa.

Following several years of tight budgets, the Cape Verdean postal service now enjoys an improved financial situation, according to its administrative council president, Filinto Santos.
