Yesterday a Sal-Boa Vista flight scheduled for 5:00 pm was cancelled, and is expected to be cancelled as well today. This morning, TACV cancelled flights from São Vicente to Sal and from Praia to São Vicente. The flight from Praia to São Filipe (Fogo) that was scheduled to depart at 9:40 am was postponed until noon, by which time officials hoped visibility would improve. Visibility on the island of Sal and in Praia is currently at 2,000 meters. Visibility on Boa Vista currently stands at 2,700 meters, while visibility on São Vicente is 2,800 meters. So-called “dry haze” is a meteorological phenomenon that affects Cape Verde on a yearly basis, normally between the months of February and April. It has its origins in the Azores anticyclone, which moves dust from the Sahara Desert west, creating clouds of sand particles that reach Cape Verde.
