The sectors of tourism, construction and public works continued to grow during the first three months of 2007, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE), which has just released the results of its economic outlook inquiry for the period. The inquiry points toward favorable growth in the tourism sector, despite constraints such as financial difficulties and the lack of qualified personnel, which remain the main factors stifling activities in the area.
Construction and public works is another of the sectors that surprised investigators in the inquiry. After 15 consecutive trimesters in negative terrain, the economic confidence indicator for the sector is now positive. In the opinion of entrepreneurs in the construction sector, the high work absenteeism rate and difficulties in obtaining bank credit are the main factors inhibiting greater growth in the area.
