09/12/08 - Cape Verde water treatment project announced

Plans for a new multi-million pound project aimed at improving water supplies and sanitation levels in Cape Verde have been unveiled.

Under the initiative, which is to be funded by Luxembourg investors, some 5.225 million euros will be spent on allowing water company Aguabrava to purchase a new 11-tonne water truck capable of improving the water supply systems on the islands of Fogo and Brava.

It is expected that the project will be launched before the end of the year, with property areas such as Sao Filipe, Cova Figueira and Santa Catarina, with this in turn likely to benefit investment properties.

In addition, four motorcycles will be provided for local water improvement officers, the Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress has reported.

This comes just weeks after it was revealed that research is currently taking place on Cape Verde's Santiago Island aimed at boosting biofuel production levels, with initial reports suggesting that physic nut plants could be used to produce seeds for exportation.
