Minister of Finances and Public Administration Cristina Duarte will leave this weekend for Shanghai, China, where in addition to participating in the annual general assembly of the African Development Bank she will make a series of contacts aimed at mobilizing new financial resources for the development of Cape Verde. “I’m going to take advantage of my presence both at the African Development Bank general assembly and in the People’s Republic of China to carry out a series of strategic contacts, all of them with the sole objective of increasing the mobilization of resources for the development of Cape Verde,” said the cabinet minister.
According to Duarte, a number of meetings have been scheduled parallel to the general assembly, which will take place on May 16 and 17. In addition international financial institutions with which Cape Verde already enjoys a relationship, meetings will also be held with a number of other potential partners. “I will have meetings with the African Development Bank and with China’s Eximbank to see if we can capitalize even more on the excellent relationship we have with that country,” explained the cabinet minister, who was optimistic about obtaining her objectives. During the general assembly, a report will be presented on the competitiveness of African economies, in which, according to Cristina Duarte, Cape Verde’s situation will be analyzed as a case study. Indeed, a delegation from the African Development Bank travelled to Cape Verde recently to gather the data necessary for the elaboration of the case study. “Cape Verde will be presented as a country that, despite some limitations, has grown at a rate higher than that seen among most sub-Saharan African countries,” said Cristina Duarte.
