The city of Praia will soon see all of its main streets and avenues asphalted. The requalification project was presented to Praia residents yesterday afternoon by the director of Cape Verde’s Department of Infrastructures, Carlos Dias, who was accompanied by Minister of Infrastructures, Transportation and the Sea Manuel Inocêncio Sousa, Prime Minister José Maria Neves and Praia mayor Felisberto Vieira. The project encompasses Praia’s busiest traffic arteries, including Amílcar Cabral Avenue, in the central Plateau district, and Che Guevara Avenue between Plateau and Vila Nova. The plan also includes Andrade Corvo Street, Agostinho Neto Hospital Street and the ramp connecting the hospital to the Lém Ferreira district, the lamp leading from the Stone Man statue to Terra Branca, the two avenues in the Prainha neighborhood and the road linking Prainha to Palmarejo and Jean Piaget University. In addition to the asphalting of the city’s main arteries, the project also calls for the placement of bricks on several of the streets in the Plateau district, such as Serpa Pinto. Requalification work will include paving, drains and sidewalks. Work is slated to begin before the end of this week. The project is being financed by the government and is budgeted at 11.3 million euros, and is expected to be concluded by November of next year. The execution of the work will be the responsibility of construction company MSF and will be audited by the company Consul.
