ImageCape Verdean Prime Minister José Maria Neves will speak before the United Nations General Assembly on September 28 to discuss the economic vulnerability of small island countries and encourage an idea that he himself has defended - that island states should be considered a region in their relations with the UN and other international organizations, such as the European Union.

 

Prior to speaking at the UN, the Prime Minister will visit the American city of Boston, where a large community of Cape Verdean immigrants resides.

An A Semana Online source affirms that José Maria Neves’ program also includes meetings with the mayor of Boston and with various university professors of Cape Verdean descent.

José Maria Neves will head from Boston to New York, where he will speak before the UN General Assembly on September 28. According to our source, the Prime Minister will touch upon issues such as climate change, the economic vulnerability of small island states and Cape Verde’s transition to the group of Developing Countries.
