06/09/07 - Portugal finances extension of Praia sea port project PDF Print E-mail

The director of the Treasury Department, Rosa Pinheiro, will sign an accord with Portugal today for the financing of part of the Praia sea port modernization and expansion project, which is currently in the process of being executed and is being financed mainly by the United States government’s Millennium Challenge Account program.

The part of the project to be financed by the Portuguese state was added after expansion work had already begun.

The Millennium Challenge Account has already made US$ 50 million available for the expansion of Praia’s sea port.

The new accord will be signed today in Lisbon by the director of Cape Verde’s Treasury Department. Rosa Pinheiro declined to reveal the amount of the financing in question, but did explain that the accord also includes financing for unspecified work on the São Vicente and Boa Vista airports.
