| 06/05/07 - New hotel opens on São Vicente |
The three-star Hotel Lazareto was officially opened Saturday, May 5, on the island of São Vicente. The enterprise belongs to Santo Antão native Agostinho Brito Lima, a successful émigré in Belgium, where he runs a restaurant business. The island of São Vicente now has one more option in the hotel sector - Hotel Lazareto, which is located between Lazareto and the small plateau leading to the Zeca Santos Military Instruction Center in Morro Branco.
The hotel contains 24 modernly equipped rooms with televisions, air conditioning, mini bars and hot and cold water. The building also contains a bar and a discotheque. All told, the enterprise cost more than 100 million escudos, 75% of which was paid for with Lima’s own resources. Lima, a native of the neighboring island of Santo Antão, is a successful émigré in Belgium, where he works in the restaurant business. “It was always one of my dreams to build a hotel in Cape Verde,” said a visibly happy Lima, who affirmed that in its initial phase the Hotel Lazareto would create 16 permanent job posts. The businessman also hopes to construct other hotels on the island of Boa Vistam where he has already purchased land.
