Cape Verde and the Principality of Andorra announced Friday in New York that they have established bilateral diplomatic relations. The accord was signed by Cape Verde’s ambassador to the United Nations, Fátima Veiga, and her Andorran homologue, Julien Vila. According to the Cape Verdean diplomat, this strengthening of relations is aimed at opening the door for cooperation in the realm of tourism and in the banking sector.
A tiny country wedged between Spain and France in the Pyrenees mountains, Andorra gains 80% of its gross domestic product from tourism. The Andorran ambassador to the United Nations justified the signing of the accord with the fact that his country is seeking to establish diplomatic relations with all of the UN’s member states. “What’0s more, this year we will join the International Francophony Organization, of which Cape Verde is a member. Diplomatic relations will bring our countries closer together,” he indicated. |
