04/09/06 - Partnership with EU theme of seminar in Praia PDF Print E-mail
ImageThe Ministry of the Economy, Growth and Competitiveness and the Ministry of Finances and Public Administration will hold a seminar on September 4 and 5 to present a study of the impact of Cape Verde’s Economic Partnership Accords (EPAs) with the European Union. The government intends to gather suggestions aimed at making a decision on what type of negotiations to engage in with the European Union.

The study of the EPA’s impact was carried out between April and June of this year and was aimed, according to Commerce Department director José Júlio, at analyzing the impact of the conclusion of the EPA with the European Union on the economy and at making recommendations on the option to be adopted by the government - that is, if Cape Verde is in a position to conclude the accord or to choose an alternative arrangement within the terms of the Cotonou Accord.

Various public institutions, public and private companies, private sector representative associations and associations of informal business operators were all involved in the preparation of the study.

The public presentation of the study on the impact of the EPAs comes within the framework of the negotiations aimed at the revision of the Cotonou Accord, to which Cape Verde is a signatory, and the consequent inclusion of the Economic Partnership Accord with the European Union.
