Prime Minister José Maria Neves will get a first-hand look today at work on the construction of Praia’s traffic ring, which began last year. The traffic ring, when concluded, will link Praia International Airport to Jean Piaget University by way of the suburb of Achada de São Filipe.
Financed by the governments of Cape Verde and Portugal, the Praia traffic ring is budgeted at some 3 billion escudos and is considered the most important highway project in Cape Verde. The Praia traffic ring is expected to have a great impact on the capital city’s development, considering the important role it could play in containing urban growth, functioning as a traffic distributor through the Covão de Fome roundabout in Achada de São Filipe. The traffic ring is projected to be concluded in 2007 and will have a total extension of 17 kilometers.
