The price of the Internet services offered by CV Multimédia will be readjusted next week, with reductions of more than 50% in some cases. Telecommunications in Cape Verde, including regular and mobile phone services and the Internet, are among the most expensive in the world, partly as a result of the monopoly held until now by Cabo Verde Telecom, CV Multimédia’s parent company.
The reduction in Internet prices, which will go into effect beginning Sunday, April 1, is the second in a relatively short period of time, following the announcement of the opening of the telecommunications market last year. According to CV Multimédia, reductions in Internet service prices will vary between 25% and 65%. Basic dial-up Internet service will now cost 1,380 escudos per month for 30 hours of Internet use. After 30 hours, clients will pay approximately 2 escudos for each additional minute. ADSL (broad band) services will go down 50%, with a monthly price tag of 5,750 escudos for a 256 Kb/second connection, with 1 Gb of navigation included. CV Multimédia is currently the only Internet operator in Cape Verde.
