The island of Santo Antão is experiencing communication problems in the realm of Internet and Cable TV, apparently as a result of a cut in the fiber optics cable in Porto Novo bay in the early morning hours of April 1. The information was confirmed by Vanda Évora of Cabo Verde Telecom’s Mindelo delegation.

According to Évora, Cabo Verde Telecom has already sent a group of specialists to the spot to try to determine the cause of the cut in the cable. It is not yet known if the problem with the cable was caused by a ship - an all-too-frequent occurrence in Cape Verde. Cabo Verde Telecom has already sent a team to Porto Novo to check the damage done to the cable and to try to re-establish communications between Santo Antão and the rest of the country.
