Cape Verde’s capital hosted an exhibition on solar energy last week, an event aimed to promote use of this renewable energy source by the private sector.

Visitors to the solar power show were able to see demonstrations by Cape Verde firms of water pumps, street and house lighting and water supply systems powered by solar energy. Cape Verde, almost entirely dependent for its energy needs on imported fossil fuels, is trying to develop renewable energy sources like wind and solar power to reduce the financial burden of energy imports.
